Book Fair Parent Night

A Parent Night has now been scheduled for Thursday, October 10th from 3-6:30pm! Come and help your students pick out books to read for their book challenges!

Book Fair This Week!

The book fair is going on this week, Oct. 7-11th. Your student will preview books during their scheduled media resource time. If you would like to purchase books please send in money with your student and don't forget money for tax! A parent night is "in the works" so stay tuned for more information!

Box Tops, Labels for Education and Tyson Labels

Please send in your Box Tops, Labels for Education and Tyson Labels by Thursday, October 17th. The class with the most collected will receive an ice cream party! Continue to save your box tops and labels after that date for our spring collection date in February!

Kernan Trail Talent Extravaganza!

Our annual Talent Extravaganza will be held on May 31st.  Audition forms are going home May 6th.  The forms are due back by May 10th.  Auditions will be held, Saturday, May 11th.  Vocal, instrumental, drama, poetry and special skills are welcome.  We hope to see our kids' talent showcased and shared with our KTE community!

Keep Collecting Over the Summer to Support PTA!

Ø  BoxTops- Be on the lookout for Box Tops on many products that you buy in the grocery and office supply stores. 

Ø  Campbell’s “Labels for Education”- These can be found on many products including soup, Goldfish crackers, breads, Pop Secret popcorn, Prego sauce, Danimals yogurt products and more.

Ø  Tyson Project A+ Labels- The entire strip of the package needs to be cut out, not just the A+ graphic.

Points earned by collecting labels and BoxTops are redeemed for classroom and resource items.

Yearbooks are $25 payable to KTE PTA.  Order forms are available in the front office or can be emailed upon request at ktepta@gmail.com. 

Teacher Appreciation Week May 6-10!

It’s teacher appreciation week.  Be sure to send in a note of thanks and don’t forget the resource teachers who keep our kids active in the arts! Forms will be coming home to order a flower for your student's teacher.  Orders are due Wednesday and students will pick up their flower purchases and deliver them to their teachers on Thursday on their way to class.  Also, if you'd like to contribute a special dessert purchase for our teachers to enjoy in the lounge on Friday, please contact Crissy Brown at cab3916@yahoo.com.  Contributions can be dropped off to the front office on Friday morning by 8:30am. 

KTE Field Days May 6-10th!

Join your student on Field Day and watch them rotate through nine physical activity stations.  Remember to send them in comfortable clothing and athletic shoes.  They may wear a hat and bring their own water as well.  Below is the schedule by grade level:

TPC tickets are available online at chipinforyouth.com. Enter KERNANTRAIL as the code in order for KTE to get credit for the sale. The school receives $25 for every $40 ticket sold. Box Tops

Turn in your box tops by March 15^th to win a party for your student’s classroom! The class with the most box tops wins!

Strategic Meetings

Duval County Public Schools and the School Board have completed a draft Strategic Plan.  Three community meetings will be held to give DCPS parents and community members a chance to fully review the plan of action for our schools and weigh-in on what's in it:

We need photos for the yearbook! Have you taken pictures of your child's classroom or special events/field trips? Please forward those to ktepta@gmail.com!

PTA Nominating Committee

We need someone to serve on the Nominating Committee that will nominate our 2013-2014 PTA Executive Board. This commitment will involve meeting together one time to go over Board applications and then put forth a slate to be voted on at the May PTA General Meeting. Thursday, April 4^th from 5:30-8:30pm we will have a Spirit Night Fundraiser at ADVENTURE LANDING! Tickets will go on sale soon for $15 and include 3 hours of unlimited go-karts, laser tag and golf!

KTE Awards Fundraiser

KTE families, our school needs your help in raising funds for student awards.  Our students participate in special year-end events celebrating their FAIR (K-2) and FCAT (3-5) testing success.  The funds are provided through various fundraising efforts throughout the year.  Our most recent fundraiser is the Peel to Save cards.  The cards are $10 each and KTE keeps $5.  The goal is to raise $500.  The fundraiser ends March 15th.  Order forms were sent home with your student a couple of weeks ago.  If you cannot locate the order form, then send in your money in a sealed envelope marked with your student's name, the number of Peel to Save cards you are purchasing and the name of your child's teacher.  Cards will be distributed once the funds are collected.  Thank you for your support of your child's awards events!

Sip and Read

Sip 'n Read is coming! Our popular Sip and Read is coming January 24th for K-2 and January 25th for 3-5th grades. The cost is $2. Look for forms coming home soon. 

Ident-A-Kid

Ident-a-kid is scheduled for January 25th. This is an opportunity to obtain a current picture and fingerprint card to carry in the event of a missing child. See forms coming home in your child's backpack.

LEGOLAND is offering Florida PTA Days the entire month of January.  Tickets are $30.  Go to www.floridapta.org; click on the LEGOLAND link and order your tickets.  You must order ahead to receive the benefit.  January’s local benefit is at the Jacksonville Zoo. Show your PTA membership card and you will receive 50% off your admission price.  Year round local benefits are available at Tropical Smoothie Café (15%), Pizza Palace (10%) and Sun Deli (10%). All you have to do is show your PTA card to enjoy the advantages.

Mid-Year Membership Drive!

Help KTE get to 100% membership by the 100th day of school! If you have not joined the PTA, you can do so for $6. With your membership you receive valuable coupons to local businesses and you help PTA provide a variety of fun programs and rewards for our students. Place $6 in an envelope with your child's name, teacher's name and "PTA Membership". You can turn it into your child's teacher. In addition, the first class to 100% membership wins a pizza party!
