Don't Forget...Book Fair this week!

Need to get some last minute shopping done?  Why not stop by at the book fair this week to pick up any last minute gifts.

The book fair will be open from about 8:15-8:45 for parents with children, no children unattended in the media center.



There will be classes all day (students will attend with their classes), then when dismissal starts, children must have an adult with them to come in. The Media Specialist, Mrs. Wintamute will be
there till 6:00 each day and before and after PTA meeting on Thursday.

Spirit Night at Tijuana Flats

Come enjoy some delicious food and take a break from cooking!

Join us on Wednesday, November 17th from 5:00-8:00pm for KTE Spirit Night at Tijuana Flats at the corner of Beach and Hodges.  Fliers will be sent home with your child on Monday November 15th.  Bring the flyer to Tijana Flats and our school will receive 10% of the proceeds.

ACE Community Meeting

ACE Community Meeting: New Elementary School

This ACE Community Meeting is being held to discuss the boundary lines for the new Elementary School currently under construction on Kernan Blvd north of Atlantic Blvd.  This redistricting is going to affect KTE families.  Please come out to the meeting to see the proposed changes for "who goes where" next year.

The first quarter AWARDS CEREMONIES will be held this week according to the following schedule:

All Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes will hold awards presentations in the classroom.  There will be an end of year Awards Ceremony in June for Kindergarten and 1st Grade parents to attend.

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, friends, teachers, school administrators and anyone else who volunteered at the Fall Festival last Friday.  It was a huge success and everyone seemed to have a fantastic time.  As always, it is our wonderful volunteers who truly make a difference at our school.  Thank you again...we couldn't have done it without you.

Volunteers Still Needed!

Thank you to all those who have volunteered to help with the Face Painting Booth...we now have that covered and will be ready for all the eager children who want beautiful (and scary) designs added to their already cute little faces!

The Fall Festival is this Friday and we are still in need of volunteers to help at several booths.  Parents, please consider donating 30 minutes to 1 hour of your time on Friday evening to help make the Festival a success for all.  The Fall Festival depends on the involvement of many so please contact the PTA at ktepta@gmail.com or Karen Stephan at 904-382-7161 and let us know when you are available.  We need you...and isn't it nice to be needed?

Information regarding our Fall Fundraiser with Gourmet Easy was sent home with your child this week.  Gourmet Easy offers an assortment of delicious desserts, snacks, and gift items.  Make the holidays at your home easy with Gourmet Easy!

Available items include: Cookie Dough, Lava-licious Fudge Cakes, Pumpkin Roll, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, Dianne's Cheesecakes, Southwestern Egg Rolls, and Ultimate Coffee. Check out the brochure for additional items and pricing as well as incentives for top sellers.

All orders and money need to be returned to your child's teacher by MONDAY, October 11th. Payment can be made either by cash, check, and/or money order. Bonus: Anyone who has volunteered 50 hours at their child's school will get in for FREE with a verifying certificate (certificates have been distributed through school mail).

Kindergarten Registration Begins

Kindergarten registration begins April 19th during the hours of 10:00am to 2:00pm for next school year.  Your child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2010.

PTA Membership is now closed for this year.  We had 395 members join and Kernan Trail PTA qualified for the Grandparent Gold Award through the Florida PTA for having 25 grandparents join PTA.  We thank you for all your support and look forward to having continued support during the next school year.

Field Day: March 30 and 31st
Couch Mulryan needs help with the kids on Field Day/Play Day.  March 30th is for 3rd-5th grades and March 31st is for K-2nd grades.

Sunshine Math Test Grading: April TBA
Volunteers are needed to help grade Sunshine Math papers for district testing.

Book Fair: April 12-16th
Volunteers are needed both to help younger students write down their selections on Preview Day and to help with transactions during school hours as you are available.  We also need at least 2 volunteers to help us during Family Night on Thursday, April 15 from 4:00-6:00pm.

Beautification Day: April 24th
Grab your rake, shovels, gardening gloves, and sunscreen and come help us spruce up the entrance and grounds at Kernan Trail Elementary.

Mother's Day Cake Decorating: May 7th
Volunteers are needed to help students decorate their ordered Mother's Day Cakes from Publix.  Meet in the morning in the Dining Room.

Sunshine Math Pizza Party: May 14th
Volunteers are needed to help distribute pizzas.

The 2010 Census is now being delivered to your mailbox.  Be sure to fill out your census information and mail it back.  Census information helps with funding for our state, our city, and ultimately our school!

Outback Steakhouse - Business Partner of the Month

For a limited time, order off the Red, White and Bloomin' menu in the month of March and help them donate $1 to Operation Homefront.  Operation Homefront was formed in February 2002 to support the families of deployed service members immediately following 9/11.  Operation Homefront is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, and currently provides services to troops and their families across the nation.

RPM Automotive Rewards Program

RPM Automotive has offered a great incentive to Kernan Trail parents, teachers, and friends.  if you have your car serviced at any of the 7 RPM Automotive locations, mention our school and we can earn 2-5% of the total cost.

Thank you to those who have taken advantage of this reward program.  Kernan Trail PTA recently received a check for $187 because of this program.  Thank you!

Superintendent Pratt-Dannals is hosting a series of community meetings to discuss Duval County Public Schools' current and upcoming financial situation, available revenue and the district's plan to meet its mission of providing all students with high quality educational opportunities.

Reading Night this Thursday

The regularly scheduled PTA general meeting for January 28, 2010 at 7:00pm is going to be something special. It’s Reading Night at Kernan Trail Elementary. We are partnering with CiCi’s Pizza to provide pizzas at a cost of $5.00/pizza (cheese or pepperoni only) from 5:45 to 6:30pm in the Dining Room.

We will have our guest author, Claire Roberts Foltz there to share some of her book “Mutts on the Move” and have a book signing. The children have been reading this book in their classes this past month.

If you would like to order a pizza for the evening, please fill out the order form that was sent home with your child last week and return with payment (cash or check payable to KTE PTA.) WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY EXTRA PIZZA. IF YOU PLAN ON EATING, YOU MUST PRE-ORDER.
